We holds volunteers and professional training annually. This is to offer basic skills on palliative care to members of the public and health care workers. Through volunteer training we are able to get future volunteers who offer their services to the Hospice and in the community.
You can be a volunteer after undergoing a three days training course at Nyeri Hospice. The training is done twice per year. They are trained about a volunteers role in the care of the terminally ill, death and dying, HIV/AIDS, and basics of palliative care. A volunteer may assist the hospice in fundraising or patients attendance upon completion of the training.
This is a five days palliative course for health-care workers. The training equips the health care works with skills to handle patients requiring palliative under their care.
Every month, we create public awareness on cancer, HIV/AIDS (mainly behaviour change) to self help groups, schools, colleges and churches. We network with the adult education department and approach others directly. This has had a great impact as more and more people are seeking our services.
